Adopt a Family Program

VGNA 8TH ANNUAL ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROGRAM

Thanks to a generous donation from Imperial Capital Bank due to the efforts of Mickey Jannol; a donation from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; a donation from State Assemblymember Paul Krekorian; the generosity of Doha Zohbi and the parents at Exploring Minds Montessori School, and especially the generosity of the residents in Valley Glen, we were able to continue our ambitious Adopt-A-Family Program in spite of the economic downturn.

We adopted two disadvantaged families from each of our four public schools (eight total); and made contributions of market gift cards to numerous special need families from Jewish Family Services of Los Angeles; and market gift cards to the LAPD Jeopardy Program that helps youth at risk at both the Van Nuys and Hollywood police stations.

Each family from the public schools received gift cards to Vallarta or Ralphs; also gift cards to Target for each child; a turkey, plus stuffed stockings for each child.

A special thank you to Asta Criss for her tireless efforts in getting dozens of stockings adopted to be stuffed with goodies and for securing the turkey donations, and to Mirna Pajuelo for her help in being the translator for the Spanish speaking families, to the school nurses, administrators and personnel who helped identify the families.

This year we saw the families more destitute as the economy has hit them the hardest. Through tears and hugs, the parents expressed gratitude to the VGNA for helping them provide a Christmas for their children.
