CERT Training

The Greater Valley Glen Council is offering FREE CERT training taught by the Los Angeles Fire Department. There are seven 2 1/2 hour classes starting Wednesday, May 4th, 7 PM to 9:30 PM (with 6 more classes on subsequent Wednesdays). Classes will be held at the Erwin Street Elementary School Auditorium, 13400 Erwin Street. RSVP: Sharon Anton 818-759-7180.

The Los Angeles Fire Department has a Disaster Preparedness Unit. After a major earthquake or other disaster it may be 72 hours before emergency services arrive on your street. The CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program trains community volunteers in search and rescue techniques, emergency medical operations, fire fighting, and earthquake preparedness.

The Program:
Class 1 - Introduction, Disaster Awareness
Class 2 - Disaster Fire Safety Techniques
Class 3 - Disaster Medical Operations (Session 1)
Class 4 - Disaster Medical Operation (Session 2)
Class 5 - Light Search & Rescue Operations
Class 6 - Team Organization & Management
Class 7 - Homeland Defense

If you are interested in this training, contact the LAFD Disaster Preparedness unit at 818-756-9674 for class schedules. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Be informed and prepared to assist your family, friends and neighbors!

Everyone who completes the training will receive a C.E.R.T. vest, hardhat and a certificate of completion. In addition, when you attend the refresher class you will receive a photo I.D. card identifying you as a C.E.R.T. graduate and "Volunteer Disaster Services Worker".
