Safety

Car Jacking Ploy

You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car, and get inside. Then you start the engine and shift into REVERSE, and you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space and you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into PARK, unlock your doors and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the car-jackers jump into your car and take off! BE AWARE OF THIS SCHEME. Just drive away and remove the paper that is stuck to your window later.

Safeguard Your Wallet

Before you lose your wallet or credit cards you can follow these simple precautions: 1) Use a P.O. Box or work address on your checks the next time you order checks. Put only your initials and last name on the checks and use a work phone if possible. If someone steals your checkbook, they will have limited information and won't know how you sign your checks. 2) Take all contents of your wallet and photocopy them. Keep the copies in a safe place. 3) When writing checks, put only the last four numbers of your account so thieves cannot steal your account number. 4) Keep a list of your credit card numbers and toll free phone numbers for reporting lost or stolen cards in a safe place.

If you lose your credit card or wallet: 1) Call Equifax (800-525-6285), Experian (888-397-3742), Trans Union (800-680-7289) and the Social Security Administration fraud line (800-269-0271) to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Secutiry number. 2) Cancel your credit cards. 3) File a police report.
